From the Fairy Glen Inn near Penmaenmawr at the foot of the Sychnant Pass G.R.743 766, we climb along a stretch of tarmac road before joining the short but steep donkey track which is the first climb of the day. Once we reach about 820ft the ground levels off and from this point it’s a really easy walk cross country (3.5miles) before we join the old Roman road that comes from up Rowen heading for Aber. From here we start the second climb of the day to the summit of Tal Y Fan (1972ft)
The views from the summit in a good day should be spectacular with the Conway Valley on one side the Menai Straits and Anglesey on the other and the Carneddau to the front.
After leaving the summit we make a long but gentle descent eventually joining the North Wales High level coastal path for a while before re-joining the donkey track back down to the Fairy Glen Inn were refreshments await.
