Rachel writes:- David our leader had taken care to recce his walk from Criccieth to Porthmadog. The original route was covered with bracken and nettles. Maybe he will try it in the winter, after another recce?
His walk today was blessed with sunshine and a kaleidoscope of scudding clouds, driven by a strong sea breeze, mostly at our backs, utterly glorious! Seventeen people, many old friends and a few new ones, enjoyed the convivial chatter, easy pace and splendid views. There were blackberries a plenty, reminding me to set time aside to go blackberrying soon.
The coffee stop looked out over fields and rocky outcrops, with convenient stones to perch on. Pressing on we came to a beautiful old church, all on its own, surrounded by grave stones, some centuries old, others very recent, a peaceful resting place. Then down and through the caravan park, spotlessly maintained, a warren to get lost in, but Dave had done his homework well, negotiating through faultlessly. On across the Golf Course to Morfa Bychan and our lunch stop on the beach, gazing out to sea.The tide was falling and sunlight sparkling, subtly changing sea colours from green to slate-purple: sheer delight! The we followed the coastal path, "round the corner and up the steps" sheltered by trees, glimpsing distant Harlech across the estuary, here and there.
Edmund, still recovering from ruptured achilles, was waiting at Borth y Gest with his car to rescue me, Pat and Jean, glad to skip the last mile and a half to Spooners for refreshment, till the bus would come to return everyone else to Criccieth.
Thank you Dave!
