Mawddach trail, Oct 10th.
An enjoyable 10 miles from Barmouth to Dolgellau along the Mawddach trail. Shortly after the start we reached our maximum altitude of around 120ft before descending onto the bridge alongside the railway track. From the bridge we crossed the salt flats passing Fegla Fach and Fegla Fawr before joining the Mawddach trail for our level journey to Dolgellau. Several of our number took advantage of the many photographic opportunities as we walked beside the estuary in glorious scenery.
A pause at the hotel at Penmaenpool saw several of our group partaking of refreshment in the hotel garden while the waitress serving them berated one or two of us for daring to expose our vacuum flasks while sitting on the sea wall opposite the hotel. Continuing into Dolgellau we had about an hour to wait until the Bangor bus arrived, the time being pleasantly passed in a couple of excellent tea rooms.
Thanks Mickey for an enjoyable and well organised walk.
