Damp and misty on the Ridge Empty

With an 'iffy' forecast, the threat of an alternative, low level walk was ever present but as all was clear and mist free, with only light rain, ten of us set off from Rhyd Ddu and headed towards the slog up Y Garn. Part way up, and we saw the mist rolling in and soon the valley was out of sight, somewhere in the mist. As usual, I was slow on the ascent and met up with the group again on the summit of Y Garn. The rain had increased by now but not too bad and we set off in the mist towards the scramble over Mynydd Drws y Coed. This was accomplished without drama, despite several of our party not having done a 'scrambly' ridge walk before. Possibly the lack of vertical visibility prevented some anxious moments.
Our lunch stop was 'just over the edge' on a grassy slope. out of the wind and while here, we were treated to some lovely, atmosheric views as the surrounding peaks appeared above the mist and the view to the North West cleared.
As we moved off again, the mist and rain returned accompanied by a cold wind so, rather than ascend to the dizzy heights of Trum-y-Ddysgl we followed the indistinct 'path' leading to our grassy descent ridge and on, through the forest back to Rhyd Ddu.
Unusually the tea shop was closed and as we were a bit damp, the idea of a refreshing cold drink was not inviting so we all dispersed.
