A great walk, led by Dafydd, ably assisted by Ifor, saw about 20 of us leaving the car park above Nant Gwertheyrn on a pleasant, if rather cool, morning for the steep descent down the road to Nant Gwertheyrn. Thankfully we were not returning by this road!
At Nant Gwertheyn we were treated to a short, interesting talk on the history of the village and the three quarries by Catherine who works at the centre and who accompanied us on our walk. We had sufficient time here for a quick panad and to take a brief 'looksee' around the information centre and the 'quarryman's cottage'.
We then headed along the beach past the remains of the jetty and quarry 'structures' before heading up to the top of the cliffs. On this 'stretch' we were buzzed by the S4C helicopter resulting in a few seconds 'exposure' of us, from a great height, appearing on TV.
Lunch was taken in a grassy hollow in the quarry above Penrhyn Glas before an easy descent towards Pistyll. After passing the weird, wavy walls, we were treated to a "lesson from the pulpit" in Pistyll church before returning to the start, following paths slightly inland from our outward route.
A very enjoyable walk with lots of added interest and information from Catherine, Dafydd and Ifor.
