]Despite the appalling weather forecast thirteen of CA-DW’s finest braved the rain and gale force winds to criss- cross the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula.
The first challenge was to beat the tide on the beach at Whistling sands which I think we all managed without getting our feet wet and once up on the rocks we were able to turn and watch of surfer’s taking advantage of what looked like superb conditions for their sport.
We then climbed up on to the coastal path which we followed as far as Mynydd Anelog .The sight of the sea crashing on the rocks below us almost made the walk worthwhile!!
From Mynydd Anelog we turned inland and were lucky enough to find a spot out of the wind for a quick coffee stop. After coffee we crossed the peninsula eventually joining the coastal path again above Porth Simdde. The tide by now should have receded enough for us to walk along the beach but because of the high wind behind the it this wasn’t the case, we were however able to use the rather tricky little path just above the rocks which was made more interesting because of the waves braking just below us
.
The next challenge was crossing the River Daron which proved to be much easier than expected however Ian and I took in a sharp intake of breath while we watched Jane taking a run and leaping over the river (memories of Kinder!!) on this occasion she made a superb landing. (watch out Jessica Ennis)
After leaving the beach we walked through the village and then along the Daron Valley were we took advantage of the shelter to have our lunch stop, after which we re-crossed the peninsula with the wind behind us now arriving back at the car park a bit damp but with that smug feeling you get when you have beaten the elements.
