On a sunny day last week Dennis and Joan led us to Penmon on Anglesey, from where we looked at Abergwyngregyn across the Menai Straits. Today it was just Dennis in the lead as we walked up to Aber Falls on another sunny day. The ten of us out for the walk enjoyed a nice amble, the tone being set at the start with Dennis giving us time out to look at the fine display of Aber’s historical background. Easy to imagine the dramatic events that took place here in the 13th century, and their abrupt end with the imposed rule of Edward 1st.
We had the path up to the falls pretty much to ourselves, the lack of other people a benefit at the falls as cameras came out – the rain of recent days very evident in the cascade of white water thundering down the falls, very dramatic. The return route took us along the Wales Coast Path, with Nigel finding us a nice piece of meadowland for an early lunch in the warm sunshine. Was this easy going Nigel the same man who two weeks ago led us through wilderness that was part of the ‘route’ from Moel Hebog to Moel Du? Hard to believe!
The forecast rain was still nowhere in sight when we reached the turn off point on the Coast Path. A birds eye view of Abergwyngregyn led on to the Laven Sands and the old route across to Anglesey. Even with the tide well out it still looked a daunting challenge. The steep descent to the village tested some knees, though I found the heat in the community café much more of a challenge, no wonder the staff looked a bit hot and flustered.
So thanks for a nice walk, Dennis – we hope Joan’s leg problem is soon sorted out.
