Wow! weren't we lucky with the weather for our walk on Holyhead mountain on Thursday, the days either side being very wet. Good planning!!! 16 of us left the RSPB car park at 10.30 and headed for Ellin's Tower, a castellated small building built for an MP's wife as a summer house but now owned by the RSPB and worth a visit when open, April to September. After crossing the road we followed one of the many footpaths until we passed the BT aerials etc. and walked towards the coastal path to see two ferry boats from Ireland approaching close to the headland just before the port. After a quick coffee, half the group opted to walk down to North Stack a steep descent and ascent, whilst the others waited and basked in the sunshine!! The views as we walked were lovely, the breakwater at Holyhead, the largest in Britian, (we read recently) is most impressive from up above. Continuing around the base of the mountain, lunch was eaten with views of Anglesey in the foregound and Snowdonia in the distance. We continued until we picked up our outward route and followed a path that brought us back down to the road by the RSPB cafe where we enjoyed a drink sitting outside in the sun and watching three Choughs having a squabble!! A good leisurely walk in warm sunny weather, a bonus for the middle of October.
