Was it the railways or the Penionnen Pub, that brought 39 people out last Thursday? Although the title of a walk in the little book has to be very limited clearly it is important to be imaginative, as well as brief. There are some trigger words that bring out the walkers Heritage - History - Coastal - Railway!
Railway buffs came thundering down the A55 for this walk. Ifor's first as a walk leader proved very popular indeed. He kept us informed on old stations - shunting yards - branch lines. We were all proud to be one of the first groups to walk along the newly created walk along the old Bryn Gwyn narrow gauge track. With car parks - picnic tables - benches along the way, hopefully many travellers on the WHR will alight at Tryfan Junction and walk this delightful new path.
The second half of this walk was more of a challenge! The four strong recce party had already spent a morning with bow saws - loppers and secateurs to clear young saplings from the the line of the path. Three people took advantage of the escape car that was magically parked at the lunchtime picnic spot.
Mud glorious mud was along the way. Edmund had to be taken to the cleaners after the walk, following a graceful dip in the mud!
The Penionnen PH had been prepared and a mighty welcome was ready for us at Ifor,s second home.
