On a perfect winter’s day for walking cold but with clear skies and no wind eighteen of us boarded the bus in Rhyd Ddu to join four others who had already boarded the bus in Caernarfon.
After leaving the village of Beddgelert we made our way up through the zig zag railway system and crossed the foot of Moel Hebog into the forest, we then steadily climbed up to the lower slopes of Cwm Meillionen and then continued on to Llyn Llewelyn were we had our lunch.
After lunch we continued along the forest road eventually reaching the base of Cwm Ddu and made a sharp left turn to take the track which climbs up the Cwm following the contour line at about 1000ft, we then descended back down into the forest and followed the well-worn but very wet path to Rhud Ddu
.
Fortunately there has been a lot of tree felling in the forest over the last few years which meant that most of the walk was in the open which afforded us some fantastic views of the Snowdon Massif and Y Aran this was made all the better as they were covered in snow.
Our day ended with welcome refreshment in the Cwellyn Arms
