Seventeen of us set out in the rain towards a destination that we couldn't see through the mist. (I really shouldn't have commented on the glorious weather we had on the recce)! Luckily the rain eased fairly soon but some of the forest paths were very wet following the rain over the previous days. There were occasional breaks in the cloud while on the tops, allowing brief glimpses of the views and on a couple of occasions we could see the sea for a minute or so. Lunch was taken on the summit of Moel Lefn, in the mist while sheltering from the very gusty (and not forecast) wind. A windy and misty trek across the tops led us to Moel yr Ogof, the highest point on the route at approx 2150 ft. The steep and sometimes rocky descent to Bwlch Meillionen led us beneath the legenary Ogof Owain Glydwr and back the the forest onto more wet paths and eventually onto forest tracks and back to the start. The walk covered about 6.4 miles with 2400 ft total ascent.
