Is he macho, or masochistic? Whatever the answer, Nigel’s walk had it all. From the early traverse of a rocky little bluff (path? – as if!), then weaving through the boggy bits around Foel Goch, boulder hopping on Glyder Fawr, scree running (well, Lew did a bit) down to Llyn y Cwn, the views from the south ridge of Y Garn (when recovered from the climb up there!), the ascent to Elidir Fawr, with its panoramic views in all directions, then finally the lovely descent through Dinorwig Quarry in the evening sunshine. It might have been thirteen miles and a lot of uphill walking, but on a day with just one shower of rain and plenty of sun, it all came together to make it a day to remember.
It was hard luck on the five who for various reasons had to peel off along the way, Di, Jo and Guto among them (Guto heading home to make sure Vicky did not become too adventurous on her crutches!).
So a big thanks to Nigel for guiding us over them there hills, bringing back memories of those Fourteen (or fifteen) Peaks traverses of days gone by. Now there’s a real challenge, Nigel. Though perhaps in days now, not hours!
