Woke to a snowy Mynydd Mawr, but by the time our eleven walkers left the 11am bus from Waunfawr to Rhyd Ddu the sun had changed all that. After walking up the road from the village it did not take long to reach the top of Clogwyn y Garreg, after the final little scramble to the summit, with excellent views down to Nantlle. Descending to Llyn y Dywarchen a leisurely lunch sitting in warm sunshine set us up for the steep climb to Mynydd Mawr, with the near vertical views down to Drws y Coed, as always, drawing our attention. Anyone who has been on Mynydd Mawr (in clear weather!) will know how good the views are from the summit, and today was no exception, with mountains to be seen in every direction.
Then it was time for the path down through the heather followed by the interesting route down to Betws Garmon. The easy paths across the fields from the church saw us pushing open gates that had been repaired and painted by our Tim Tacio Llwybrau volunteers. The lane past the old settlement of Treflan brought us back to Waunfawr and the handy car park outside the Snowdonia Brewpub. Here the beer lived up to its reputation (and the coffees and soft drinks were also nice) and a relaxed half hour of chat ended a good day in the hills.
