Weather forecast for Wednesday (as of 3.00pm Mon) is for sunny intervals, 12-13 C, light winds and no rain so it's looking good for a leisurely walk surrounded by at least 5 of the 3000ft peaks in Wales.
The track around Llyn Idwal is easy to follow and passes beneath several of the superb climbing and scrambling routes in the Oggie valley.
Starting at the visitor centre by Ogwyn Cottage, the initial 50 yds on the well trodden path (the steepest slope of the day) brings us to the gate! where the views of the cwm unfold with the distinct "Dragon's Back" outline of Tryfan coming into view. The next major peak in front of us is Y Garn. On reaching the lake we follow a clockwise route as far as the base of the Idwal Slabs where it is very probable that climbers will be enjoying some of the many routes. This brings us to the "far point" of the route before the return along the Western side of the lake past several areas where sheep have been excluded and the effects of grazing on the open cwm can be seen.
Reaching the Northern end of the lake with Pen yr Ole Wen towering across the valley, we return to the start.
If the thought of the 3000 ft peaks worries you, the start of the walk is 1000ft above sea level and the maximum height reached is just under 1300ft.
I can't recall the parking charge at the start but I intend to park on the lay-by, a few hundred yds East of the start.
