| Subject: 2015 LONG WEEKEND -BISHOPS CASTLE - 3,4,5 JULY Sat Feb 21, 2015 9:08 am | |
| For this year’s long weekend Caernarfon & Dwyfor Ramblers are staying in the old market town of Bishops Castle, in the rolling Shropshire countryside. Well supplied with accommodation and eating spots, Bishops Castle is renowned for real ale pubs and having the oldest brewery in the UK.
The Kerry Ridgeway runs west from Bishops Castle, as does the Shropshire Way, while Offa’s Dyke and the Long Mynd are nearby. With these and many other paths this delightful part of Shropshire has much to offer. It might not have mountains, but Shropshire hills can be very steep!
For those who have not been away with us before, we will have walks arranged for Friday afternoon, day walks on Saturday and Sunday (with options), and a walk on Monday morning. In the evenings we gather for an evening meal, with three different venues already booked. Some come for just the three nights, others like to extend the stay.
For those staying in B&B, guesthouses or Clun YH – if you would like the company of other group members, please get in touch. I can put you in contact or tell you where others are staying. Most outdoor folk will be based at Foxholes camp site (tents, camper vans, caravans, no hook ups), on the edge of Bishops Castle. Please book through their website. There are other camp sites around Bishops Castle, but unlike Foxholes, you cannot walk back to them after a late night at the famous Three Tuns!
We suggest booking accommodation as soon as possible, as the Bishops Castle Tandem Triathlon takes place that weekend.
Please get in touch if you would like any further information, or to add your name to the weekend total, for information later regarding walks and meals. Contact details – Page 6 North Wales Summer to Winter Walks Programme
