A really enjoyable day began at the bus stop at Porth Penrhyn where telve of us boarded the bus to arrive at Tan y Lon to start the walk.
Because of major repairs taking place on our intended route, as a result of flood damage, we made a detour to climb up to the NW coastal path which then afforded us fantastic views, and what's more, it appeared to be raining on Anglesey whilst we wete blessed with sunshine! It was here that we were joined by Margaret Fernley from Ba/Be group who with her local knowledge added much interest to the walk with lots of historical details along the way.
Lunch stop location was one of the best ever, just off the footpath behind Half Way bridge on the A5. When we moved off were shown another of Margaret's surprises, a cannon rock. (Nothing to do with Edmund!). These were fired to mark a visit by a Royal personage or to mark a local celebration.
We continued to Llys Hynafol Cochwillan, an interesting old property the interior of which can be viewed by prior appointment; definitely something for another day. We then went to view Fllin Cochwillan. Margaret's tales of her childhood helping to take grain to the mill brought that back to life for us.
We were no close to Bangor although you would never realise it and because of Dave's philosophy of "never take a short cut if there is the possibility of a longer, more pleasant route", got us back to the cars with only a few hundred yards walking alongside a busy road.
An excellent 8 mile walk.
