An "Oh no, not again" moment on opening the curtains on Sunday morning as a previous trip in this area was postponed for a week due to 'orrible weather. However, things improved and a majority of us started out from the car park, with no, or only partial waterproofs. We had travelled, maybe 100 yards before stopping to don waterproofs as it started to rain as we crossed the road.
This ominous omen did not, thankfully, develop into any major deluge and we only suffered a few, fairly light showers early on.
The initial ascent to Crimpiau took a less boggy route than the previous trek but after lots of rain the previous week, the route was very soggy in places. Luckily we didn't lose anyone into a swamp.
The ominous dark clouds over Craig Wen and Cregiau Gleision didn't release much water onto us and a lunch stop near the summit of Craig Wen was (almost) rain free.
We kept fairly high to avoid the lower path, which appeared to be a river and by the time we were looking down on Llyn Cowlyd, many of us decided that our waterproofs were no longer neccessary. WE WERE RIGHT!!!! as it turned into a fairly sunny afternoon. The descent to Llyn Cowlyd was 'a bit' steep but not excessive for a B+ walk.
A final 'wander' along the western side of Llyn Cowlyd and a crossing of more soggy ground led us back to the road with about half a mile along the road back to the cars. A long day and a fairly hard walk, partly due to the wet ground was enjoyed by all (at least everyone said they had enjoyed it). 12 of us set out and I counted them all back at the finish.
