Nineteen folk turned up for John Carsen’s aptly named walk, with the cascades in Caunant Cynfal particularly spectacular. Trees without leaves gave us excellent views of the fast moving river, from what in places is a very airy (should that be hairy?) path. As Lew said, it’s the mountains that are supposed to be dangerous!
John gave us a nice easy start with a descent from Llan Ffestiniog, to see our first waterfalls of the day, followed by a looping climb to cross the rails of the old main line train line to Bala. The boggy section near the old quarry workings up on the moor was not too bad, the broken stiles and too liberal use of barbed wire much more of a challenge. Then it was down to the Afon Cyfnal and those cascades, before we headed back to Llan Ffestiniog and for most, some refreshments in the Pengwern.

Great day John, thanks for guiding us. Plus it was good to discover that you have not retired from leading after all!
