On this weekend in particular it was good to have Dafydd & Maxine’s three young grandchildren with us for Johns walk. Not many Ramblers walks have children’s laughter filling the air. We usually have to rely on Nigel for that sort of entertainment! Following a route developed by Llanfrothen Community Council, the gardens and follies of Plas Brondanw were left behind as we climbed though mist shrouded woods to top out on the old road between Croesor and Rhyd.
The cloud was lifting and the views improving, although the recent rains had left a slippery surface on rock and grass, and on the move it was a case of eyes down a lot of the time. Good to see Pat getting stronger and stronger and to welcome Vicky to her first C&D walk since her accident. Some very nice open country on the return leg, the sea in the distance beyond Porthmadog and for a while, the sun put in an appearance.
Having got rid of those very muddy boots, most of us ended up in Y Ring (Brondanw Arms), sharing the pub (and nearly their sandwiches) with a sponsored walk group.
The late decision to run the walk for Children in Need meant that we missed being listed as one of the supporting rambles, but that did not stop us gathering £117 for the Countryfile campaign in favour of C in N. So a big thank you to all who contributed, the money will go through tomorrow. Plus thanks to John for leading an entertaining and enjoyable walk.
