The former brickworks site in Caernarfon has recently become the base for the company who will be building the Bontnewydd Bypass. While the old work buildings have been demolished the former sand pit area is interesting and quite expansive and includes a lake, all marked as a sand pit on the 1:25,000 map. I have arranged with Bryn Williams, the site agent for the contractors, Jones Bros, to visit the site on Thursday 20th April.
Anyone interested in coming along is invited to join us at 10.30am at the start of Lon Eifion, the cycleway/footpath in St Helens Road in Caernarfon (just along from the WHR station). After walking a short way along Lon Eifion we will divert to follow the Afon Seiont to the brickworks, exploring below the various bridges over the river and walking through the park hidden away down there. It's only about a mile to the brickworks and mainly on hard surfaces, so no expedition gear needed!
As there is the possibility that Bryn might be called away at fairly short notice, or if the weather is very poor, please check on the Caernarfon & Dwyfor Ramblers website or our Facebook page on the morning of the 20th in case there is a notice of cancellation.
