Despite the forecast of gale force winds and snow sixteen of us left the car park in Nantmor fully prepared to face the elements!! After a short road section through the village we soon joined the footpath that took us to Bwlchgwernog and Afon Nantmor. Dave had pre planned a very interesting coffee stop by a fallen tree (image on Facebook) From here we continued along the valley to Gelli Iago and then turned in an south easterly direction climbing quite steeply in places up Bwlch Y Battell (Does anyone know what Battel stand for?) Here we found what's marked on the map as the "The Cave" which isn't a cave at all and had our lunch taking what shelter we could from the wind behind some large rocks. From the Cave we made our way through Bwlch y Battel eventually reaching the old drovers track which took us down to the road in Bwlchgwernog which we followed back to Nantmor. This short section of road was only just over one mile but it really was a "sting in the tale" thanks Dave.
We had strong winds, snow, rain, plenty of mud and bog but back at the car park everyone was smiling and had genuinely enjoyed the walk.
