As of Wednesday evening the forecast is for a cloudy but dry day on Saturday. We are meeting at the Snowdonia Parc Brewpub/WHR car park in Waunfawr ready to catch the 10.55 bus to Betws Garmon. If you like to get the flask out for a morning coffee on your walks, please break with tradition and enjoy before the walk, in the car park before catching the bus.
From Betws Garmon we follow a little used path which climbs around the lower slopes of Moel Eilio, crossing the line of iron ore mines and up to Bwlch y Groes. There due to a broken ladder stile we have a gate to climb over before winding our way down past the old and very overgrown quarry holes to Llanberis and lunch at Pete’s Eats.
A different route back, partly on tarmac (which you might welcome after some muddy stretches of path earlier on!), takes us back up to Bwlch y Groes then down to Waunfawr and the very handy hostelry for warmth and refreshment.
Depending upon how many we are in the queue for bacon butties at Pete’s Eats it might be getting dark when we return, so a head torch might not go amiss. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
