Caernarfon & Dwyfor AGM
Thanks to all those who came to Penygroes last week for the Group’s AGM. Our guest speaker this year was retired SNPA Warden Aled Taylor, whose slide show peep at his career and his mountain rescue work brought back memories for many in the audience. A later collection raised £53 for Llanberis MR Team.
Chat, tea and an array of tasty home-made cakes provided by C&D members followed, leaving Chairman Dafydd Jones looking anxiously at his watch, waiting to get the AGM underway.
This year we had the novelty of a motion to deal with, but before that there were changes in the officers, people stepping down from the committee and new faces joining. John Hammond retired as Secretary but will remain on the committee. Margaret Lowe takes over as Secretary but relinquishes her Social Secretary role (for which we still have a vacancy). Ian Nellist retired as Treasurer and Guto Parry is taking on that position. Ian also looked after our website and again Guto is going to deal with this role. Chris Jones, our excellent ‘kitchen manager’ for the AGMs, has also retired from the committee. Dave Woods is to act as Vice Chairman if Dafydd is not available, and Edmund Plaxton is resuming his role as Membership Secretary. There were thanks for all those who are retiring, and also a welcome to Joan Glass, Keith Griffiths and Hefina Rowley, who are joining the committee.
After a presentation of reasons and some debate the meeting then passed a motion suggesting a change of name from Ramblers to WALKING UK (or similar), the motion to go to the North Wales Area AGM in January.
Thanks to Penygroes Community Council for providing an excellent meeting room, allowing Dafydd to reminisce about his schoolboy acting career there, back in the mists of time. I don’t think the hall would have been as warm and cosy in those days!
