As of Wednesday evening the weather this coming Sunday looks quite good, with a forecast of broken clouds and sunshine, light winds and no rain. We shall see, but anyway this low level walk should suit any weather pattern. We start from Pont Bethania, which is the harbour bridge on the town side of the Ffestiniog Railway Station in Porthmadog. The route out of Porthmadog takes us to through part of the older, working part of the town, past old mills and on to follow the canal that was built to connect Porthmadog and Tremadog.
Walking past Tremadog hospital we then follow a track which was an old road heading north towards Caernarfon, before turning at Penmorfa for a valley walk past the unexpectedly large Wern mansion. Then we cross the Porthmadog – Criccieth road to begin an ascent to around 140 metres on the side of Moel y Gest, and hopefully good views over Cardigan Bay. From there an easy descent then a little pavement walking takes us to the coast for a delightful walk back to Porthmadog.
Look forward to seeing you for a 10.30am start at Pont Britannia, with Spooners at the station a handy spot for tea or something stronger when we return in the afternoon.
