8 of us set out on a slightly damp morning and immediately met the steepest part of the walk through the woods towards the remains of the copper mine in Cwm Ciprwth. The effects of the previous day's torrential rain were immediately apparent on the vegetation and the landscape but the slight drizzle had stopped and it was getting brighter. Although early in the walk the convenient remains of the pump and waterwheel were a convenient stop for coffee. Heading uphill from here the ""dampness""!!!! underfoot became more apparent for a while until the longest ascent of the day to our maximum height of about 1300 ft. Although it was effectively all downhill from here following the path (definitely on the map but DEFINITELY NOT on the ground) the going was not easy and was made more difficult by the soaking vegetation hiding the muddy holes.
As we approached the lane in Cwm Pennant it started to rain heavily and the "other side" of the valley where the route led was in mist. A concensus was that we return along the road rather than following the full proposed route and "saving" that side of the Cwm for another day.
Sod's law:- the rain had stopped when we got back to the cars but it did return shortly after.
All agreed that it was an enjoyable walk through little explored territory.
