Looking for something different, this is our first venture into having two C&D walks on the same day. While the walks start at different times, later in the day we should all be together to enjoy a panad in the Pavillion Café at Llanfairfechan - perhaps meeting before that as we all walk along the edge of the Laven Sands. Both walks start at the café, which is on the waterfront promenade in Llanfairfechan – turn left at the traffic lights in the centre of the village.

The longer walk, of around 10 miles if we take in the Aber Falls, starts at 10am. We wind our way up through Llanfairfechan then climb quite steeply to join the route of the Roman road coming over from Rowen and the Conwy valley. We head west on the track to eventually reach Abergwyngregyn, then go down to the Menai Straits for the walk back to the café on the Wales Coast path..

The shorter route, of 4 miles, starts at 12.30pm with a walk up to the crossroads to catch the bus to Aber. Then it’s an easy stroll down to the Straits to take the Wales Coast path back to Llanfairfechan. The route passes lagoons and bird hides, while the Straits at low tide are a mass of sandbanks. It was from here on the Laven Sands that the Roman army crossed to Anglesey to complete their conquest of this corner of Wales.

I will be leading the early walk, while Edmund and Rachel are leading the later walk. So if you would like to stretch your legs with some uphill walking, or instead just stroll and enjoy the coastal scenery, why not come along and join us in this new dual walks?
