To our Fellow Members,

You may well be by aware by now of the Consultation exercise that has been planned by Gwynedd Council regarding possible austerity budgeting in their future spending. We are all concerned that his may or may not have an effect on the future maintenance of our Public Rights of Way. Your CW / DW have written a letter to the Councillors highlighting our concerns, and now we are asking for support from all our members.

Registration on-line (according to Newyddion) is to go on line to www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwyneddchallenge register your details and then (it says) - choose one of 5 service areas - select the services you wish to see protected from each of the service areas - Review the value of the services you wish to protect - complete the process and submit your choices

For the purposes of the Consultation exercise we get the sense that they are looking to consult the wider Community taking the exercise to the town and villages throughout Gwynedd. Therefore, we think they may not take account of the views expressed if the same representative turned up at every meeting, hence our suggestion that the Ramblers’ mobilise the general membership to ensure there is (preferably) a different representative (s) in each meeting –it will carry more weight. Future meetings in our area are as follows:

Llanrug. 3rd November. Ysgol Brynrefail. 6.45pm.

Caernarfon. 20th October. Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen. 6.45pm

4th November. Noddfa Centre. 6.30pm – 8.30pm

6th November. Oriel Pendeitsh. 11.00am – 2.00pm.

Bangor. 12th October. Ysfol Tryfan. 6.45pm

23rd October. Deiniol Shopping Centre. Unit 22, opposite Iceland) 10.00am – 1.00pm.

10th November. Eglwys y Groes. Maesgeirchen. 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Bethesda.22nd October. Neuadd Ogwen. 11.00am – 1.00pm.

Penygroes. 8th October. Ysgol Dyffryn. Nantile. 6.45pm.

Porthmadog. 6th October. Salem Chapel. Vestry (High Street) 11.30am – 1.30pm.

Pwllheli. 2nd November. Capel y Drindod (High Street) 11.00am – 1.00pm

11th November. Ysgol Glan y Mor. 6.45pm

Unfortunately, time is not on our side. However, to do nothing will make the likelihood of the proposed cuts being carried out, and once paths are allowed to deteriorate, it could be many, many years before the situation could be recovered.

The Committee.
