Because of the forecast Roy switched the 10.5 mile walk over Rhiniog Fach and other mountain tops, devising instead a circular route from Cwm Mynach to places we will probably never find again. In swirling mist Roy led us up and down through forest (some felled!), bracken, heather, chest high nettles, rocky hillsides - and some lovely country, which we could occasionally see when the mist cleared.

We found our way past old mine workings, mysterious furnished but seemingly forgotten farmhouses, enough abandoned machinery to keep a scrap merchant happy for weeks, and a few derelict fences where they should not have been. All this in a maze of little cwms and ridges – good route finding, Roy. Then when we got back, what did the GPS tell us – 10.6 miles walked! How did he do it?

Definitely a walk to remember, and not just for getting up and down the narrow three mile lane up to the top of the valley unscathed. Thanks Roy – sleep came easily on Saturday night!
