Llyn Prfed and the Roman Steps Saturday 17th May
Meet 10.30am forest car park grid ref SH 684 302
The car park is at the end of the single track road that leads off the A470 juts after Bronaber if you are coming from the north, There are some recycling bins at the start of this road.
Chris and I did a recce of the walk yesterday. It is a lovely walk in the hills and valleys of a little visited area following small paths, in some cases very small paths/ none! It starts off through the forest but soon turns for a reasonably gentle climb up beside a stream passing Lyn Pryfed.
We then join another path leading slowly down into Cwm Bychan before making an ascent up the Roman Steps and back into the forest before reaching the cars.
Whilst the weather forecast for Saturday looks good we would warn you that it is very wet underfoot for a considerable part of the way--- think of a John Carson walk!!!
In addition the path back though the forest is blocked by 3 or 4 pine trees that have fallen in recent storms and it is quite a clamber to get round them.
In the book it is shown as 8 miles and a B grade. The distance is accurate and we feel the B grade is also fair reflecting the wet conditions and the nature/lack of paths in parts.
