Despite information in the programme this walk [b] is 7.8 miles, not 5 as shown in the programme[/u]
After a short distance on forest tracks we enter true "wild country"; not difficult terrain but little visited. An ascent past Llyn Pryfed leads to the foot of Bwlch Gwilim where we start the descent to the end of Llyn Cwm Bychan.
A steady, fairly easy ascent of the Roman Steps,(look out for the Legions), provides some quite spectacular scenery. The final part of the walk is a long, steady descent to enter the forest, and an easy stroll on recently graded forest footpaths back to the car park.
The start is from the small car park just inside the forest. From the North on the A470, about a mile south of Bronaber, look for the lay- by on the right. About 50 yds past this, take the lane on the right (look for the dustbins). There is a gate about 100 yds along this lane! The car park is in the forest, a couple of miles along the twisty, narrow "yellow" road. (It's a dead end so very little traffic)
