PostSubject: Snowdon via Cwm Clogwyn - Thursday 25th April.   Mon Apr 22, 2013 2:18 pm

Having just spent a very wet morning working my way up to Llechog from a mist enshrouded Cwm Clogwyn, I hope that we have a much better day on Thursday. It would be a pity to miss the view of the surrounding cliffs from Llyn Coch, and the walkers silhouetted on the skyline. Please note the 'working my way up to Llechog' - the rock strewn gullies which used to be just a little challenge seem a lot steeper now, even hands coming in useful at times. So, depending upon your level of fitness, be prepared for some deep breathing!

Before that we will have taken the old Llanberis route from Rhyd Ddu, though now with it's rather crazy diversion over the tips of Glanrafon Quarry. One benefit of the diversion is the chance to look at a row of rare, split level quarry men's cottages. Set close to the quarry incline, access to the ground floor is on the lower side of the hill, the doors to the upper floor are round the back and level with the ground, one floor up. Without roofs but in good condition just a few years back, now time and weather are taking their toll and soon they will be one more mysterious heap of stones.

Reaching Snowdon via the upper part of the Rhyd Ddu path we will be descending on the Snowdon Ranger path before cutting back to Rhyd Ddu.

My nine miles estimate for the walk may have been a little short - I look forward to the GPS folk coming up with the correct figure at the end of the day. Finally, a word of warning - if you are coming on the walk, do not wear your best pair of lightweight walking boots. The melting snow has left a legacy.
