The weather was in recovery mode for Saturday June 25th's walk. Just five people braved the ambiguous weather forecast, for a full eight mile walk across boggy, rocky, terrain. Chris (H) had recce'd the walk twice to get it correct, thanks Chris it was well worth it.
In the event just a very few drops of rain fell on us, so we were dry throughout, though the long views were obliterated. For coffee and lunch stops, Chris found good sheltered places. After lunch Edmund managed to forget he was using two walking sticks that day, so left one behind. So if you are high up in the Rhinogs, just below the mountain called Clip do look out for my lost stick!
After lunch we headed for Llyn Cwm Bychan, which was already in sight below us. Then ahead were the famous Roman steps, we met our first walkers of the day here, who warned us that if were going to the top of Rhinog Fawr it was dangerously windy, fortunately we were not, once at the top of the steps we headed straight on for the Forest, where we had left the cars. All along the Forest path were a cascade of waterfalls of the Afon Crawcwellt. Gwynedd are upgrading the path here, to enable the path easy to use for those wishing to visit the falls.
A long challenging walk over rough terrain, this was real 'Rambling' we all felt better for it, pleased that we had been up for the challenge, especially Edmund, as Rachel and I had been away house sitting in Devon for three weeks.
