John's walks are usually challenging, even the weather joined in. Reports have told me that nine worthy members completed John's walk, in inclement weather and so close to Christmas! They have all been awarded Gold Stars, for adventure. Hail was the main culprit they arrived at Borth y Gest beach to find it white with ice!!
Not deterred the summit of Moel y Gest was the next target. Encouraged by Pred the summit was achieved, with his knowledge of history he pointed out the spur of rock drilled with holes. This was a traditional rock canon, an old mining tradition. These prominent rocks were packed with explosives to celebrate the building of the cob in 1811. How many times have we passed without noticing that? Explosive experts could even engineer the explosions to play God Save the Queen, on Royal Anniversaries.
As ever coming down was worse that going up. The hail had left the rocks slippery, many took a tumble on the way, but nine fully fit people returned to celebrate with a pint in the 'Pub on the Platform at Porthmadog Station.
