Those with an aversion to climbing steep hillsides should enjoy the easy gradients of this walk, as from Capel Curig we mainly follow the route used before Telford gave us the modern A5. We start on the old coach road which crosses the the bridge near the village car park in Capel Curig before contouring up the west side of the valley as far as Llyn Ogwen. After that a somewhat vaque and lumpy path along the north shore of the llyn leads us to a good view of the old bridge arch (some say Roman) under Telfords 'modern' bridge. Crossing the A5 we find easier walking on the lane past Idwal Cottage YH and down the west side of Nant Ffrancon. Leaving the tarmac behind we follow the wide track which takes us below the Penrhyn Slate Quarries and alongside the tumbling Afon Ogwen, before eventually winding our way through the woods back into Bethesda.

For those who like news of refreshments, there is a nice little cafe right by the bus stop in Bethesda, ideal for a drink before catching the bus, or on return.

A walk with great views and some history, look forward to seeing you there.
